Good evening 1st grade families,

I hope you all had a lovely long weekend! Although our week was shorter we sure got up to some exciting things in the four days we had together.

Huge thank you again students remembering to bring their library and decodable home reader books back and forth this week. Reminder to parents students can exchange their decodable books as soon as they have read them at home. I encourage and remind students to choose new books at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day.

Huge thank you the parents at Andrew Sibbald who contributed and made us a DELICIOUS SOUP buffet on Wednesday, how lucky are we! Thank you again for taking such good care of us all.

This week was literacy week some of our learning intentions for this week were:

ELA-L

  • I can listen to stories and talk about what they mean.
  • I can ask and answer questions about a book.
  • I can make connections between a story and my own life.
  • I can share my favourite part of a book and explain why I like it.
  • I can share my ideas during classroom discussion.s
  • I can listen carefully when others are sharing.
  • I can talk about my favourite book of author.
  • I can draw and write about a book I enjoy.
  • I can label my pictures to show my thinking.
  • I can write a sentence to share my thinking about a story.
  • I can add details to my drawing or writing to show understanding.
  • I can recognize letters and sounds in words I read.
  • I can read familiar words in books.
  • I can use what I know about sounds to help me try to read new words.
Thank you to Mrs. Norman for reading one of our friends favourite books we learned a bit about how Airplanes work!

Students brought in their favourite books, some took the chance and read to their peers and teachers! How amazing!

One of our activities the kiddos loved the most was drawing them reading their favourite book in their visual journals this week!

See you on Monday my friends!

Ms. Craik
