Good evening grade 1 families,

I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend. This week altho short, was busy. Huge thank you to the Parents again for the breakfast treats on Wednesday, we truly are so spoiled at Andrew Sibbald. Please continue to encourage your child to participate and exchange their home reading decodable books. Library is on Wednesdays. 

One of our highlights from the week was around Earth Day. Our combined learning intentions for the week were;

Science Learning Outcomes — Earth Day. Living Systems, Earth Systems, and Environmental Care. Understanding the Earth and Environment.

  • I can describe what Earth Day is and why it is important.
  • I can identify ways people can care for the Earth.
  • I can recognize natural things like plants, animals, soil, air, and water.
  • I can describe ways people use natural resources like water, trees, and soil.
Caring for Living Things
  • I can explain why plants and animals need clean air, water, and land.
  • I can describe ways to help living things stay healthy.
  • I can show respect for living things in my classroom and community.
  • I can participate in activities that help care for the Earth, such as planting or cleaning up litter.
Reducing Waste and Protecting the Environment
  • I can sort items into garbage, recycling, or compost.
  • I can describe ways to reduce waste.

Happy Sunday grade 1 families. What a fun way to start a Monday A day at the race track and fun lunch. The rest of our week did not disappoint, with a fire drill, spring snowstorm and an author's visit.

One of our biggest highlights this week was our Teachers Pet experience. Huge thank you to Andrew Sibbald Parent Council for helping with the cost of this for our kids. Another big thank you to the volunteers who were able to join us on Monday and help make the morning a fun, successful one.

Angela Murphy author visit! We had a ton of fun meeting a real life Author on Friday and had some amazing questions to ask her.  





She read to us Listen up, Wonder Pup! We loved it and were super excited to learn more about Draper and Zane. We are so excited to continue to learn more about the Wonder series in our classroom.

I hope you all have had a wonderful week. Our grade 1's have had a busy exciting week of learning. Huge thank you to the PAC for organizing the Spring dance I know this was a highlight in our room. Thank you to those kiddos who remembered that it is library on Wednesdays. Another shout out to the kids who continue to participate in our home reading decodable program.

One of our highlights this week in our class was learning about Spring and the Seasonal Changes. Our learning intentions for this are;
