Good evening Grade 1 families,
I hope this message finds you all well. We had another full busy exciting week in Grade 1 filled with lots of hands on learning, snow and even some blue days! Thank you for all the students who returned over due library books, as well as who remembered their library book on Wednesday. Also huge thank you to the parents and kiddos who have been participating in our decodable reading home program to help support out literacy in Grade 1.
Important reminders for next week, students do not have school on January 30th as it is a PD day for teachers. Also as the weather gets cooler again, please make sure you are sending your son or daughter with warm clothes, snow pants, mitts, boots and hats.
Some of our learning intentions from this week were focused in the following areas:
❄️ Science – Winter & Seasons
- I can tell what winter looks like.
- I can tell how winter feels (cold, snowy, icy).
- I can watch snow and ice and talk about what happens.
- I can say how animals live in winter.
- I can learn that winter comes every year.
- I can learn that Indigenous peoples learn about winter by watching nature.
- I can talk about winter.
- I can listen to others talk about winter.
- I can draw pictures to show what I know about winter.
- I can write words or short sentences about winter.
- I can listen to stories about winter.
- I can learn that Indigenous stories teach lessons about winter and nature.
- I can tell how winter changes what we do.
- I can tell how people help each other in winter.
- I can learn that people experience winter in different ways.
- I can learn how First Nations and MΓ©tis peoples lived in winter.
- I can show respect for others and the land in winter.
See you all on Monday morning friends!
Ms. Craik
