Welcome back and Happy New Year Grade 1's what an amazing way to start our week with a field trip to the Sam Center!

Reminder that Wednesdays are our Library days, please make sure to have both your library books and that Tuesday is fun lunch this week.

This week at school we worked hard on building back classroom routines and building back our stamina for full days at school.

One of our learning intentions for the week were integrated around the Sam Center experience.

ELA:

  • I can talk about what a story teaches me about community.
  • I can ask and answer questions about what I see and hear.
  • I can use new words to talk about parades, traditions and celebrations.
Social Studies:

  • I can explain what it means to belong to a community.
  • I can describe ways people help others feel included.
  • I can show how I feel when I am part of a group.
  • I can identify different roles people have in a parade or community.
  • I can explain how working together helps a community.
Cross-Curricular
  • I can take on a role and act it our respectfully.
  • I can work with others to create a shared experience.
  • I can follow group expectations during activities and field trips.
  • I can reflect on what I learned about at the Sam Center.

“communities are stronger when people share their cultures and work together.”

Some quotes from the students about what they learned or enjoyed at the Sam Center:

"I liked learning all about the Calgary Stampede." Althea

"I like seeing all the Cowboy artifacts at the museum, I really like looking at the real cowboy boots they had and we could touch." Sophie

"I liked playing on the I-pads to create a horse, I made mine really fun." Edie

I" like watching the Stampede movie, the band part was my favourite!." James

"I like learning about the Calgary stampede, because I learned that riding horses is an important part of the stampede." Leif

"I liked watching the movie because it was sort of in 4D." Wesley

"My favourite of the part of the field trip was when we got to make a float and act it out in front of everyone." Dylan

"I learned they put red bows around the cowboy hats because it is a symbol of Canada." Hans

"Calgary is special because we have a Calgary stampede, that lots of people come to visit, cowboys, horses and chuck wagons." Sienna

Huge thank you our parents who joined us for the day! The students did a wonderful job representing Andrew Sibbald and had a wonderful day of fun learning!

See you all on Monday.

Ms. Craik
