Happy Sunday families,
I hope you all have enjoyed your first fall long weekend together!
What a wonderful week we had this week at school. We were very busy with lots of exciting learning and things happening in Grade 1.
One of our learning intentions this week was observing Orange Shirt Day and honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Some of our cross curricular connections were:
Social Studies, Belonging and Identity.
- I can listen to stories about Indigenous peoples and learn from them.
 - I can show respect by listening carefully when others are speaking.
 - I can recognize that Truth and Reconciliation Day is a time to remember and honour children and families.

Citizenship
- I can learn about Indigenous peoples and ways.
 - I can talk about how we can take care of each other in our classroom and school.
 - I can remember that everyone belongs in our community.

Well-Being and Character Education
- I can show kindness by thinking about how others may feel.
 - I can wear orange to show I care and remember.
 - I can share words of kindness to help others feel safe and respected.

Art and ELA
- I can share my thoughts and feelings through drawing, writing, or speaking.
 - I can listen to and retell a story about Truth and Reconciliation in my own words.
 - I can create and design my own orange t-shirt to show respect, remembrance and care.

Now that we have heard from the author of Shi-shi-etcho we are going to do some thinking about what Shi-shi-etcho had in her memory bag before she left home? What would you gather and place in your memory bag if you needed to leave on a journey?
Also huge thank you to our Parent Association committee for organizing treats for Back to School and to start our week off amazing.  We really are so incredibly lucky at Sibbald!
