Happy Sunday families,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend together!

A few reminders for this week, picture day is on Monday. We will also have our first fire drill practice this Wednesday. This Thursday will be observing Orange Shirt Day students are encouraged to wear orange if possible.

Thank you to the families who were able to make it out to the drop in open house and had a chance to look a couple samples of their child's work from the first 2 weeks together.

Some of our learning intentions for this week were cross curricular connections in Art, Science, Social Studies and ELAL. In grade 1 :

Art (Visual Arts)

  • I can create art using natural and found objects.
  • I can use patterns, shapes, and textures I see in nature to make my own artwork.
  • I can explain my choices when I create art.
  • I can take care of materials and respect nature when I make art.
Science (Living Systems and Environment)
  • I can notice patterns and changes in the natural world.
  • I can sort and describe objects from nature by size, shape, colour, and texture.
  • I can explain how natural materials are alike and different.
  • I can share ideas about how nature can inspire creativity.
English Language Arts and Literature
  • I can share my ideas about art with others.
  • I can describe what I see in my art and the art of others.
  • I can listen to my classmates and ask questions about their artwork.
  • I can use words to explain how nature makes me feel and how it inspires me.
Social Studies (Belonging and Community)

  • I can work with my classmates to create a class art gallery.
  • I can celebrate how people show belonging and community through art.
  • I can show respect for my community and the natural environment by how I gather and see materials.

So excited to see you all tomorrow friends.

Ms. Craik

*Also please see the following message from Ms. K and Mrs. Bauman:

Dear Parents,

Thank you for all who were able to make it to the Meet the Teacher Thursday night. We loved seeing all of the beautiful hopes, wishes and dreams from students (and yours as well!) We can't wait to see the whole school's representation of their leaves on our Sibbald Tree in the hallway. If you didn't make it to the Meet the Teacher evening, please find your child's green leaves inside their zippy folders. One leaf is for your child to write one goal, hope or dream for Gr. 1 and the other is for you as parents. In Grade 1, we are working on the following writing outcome: I CAN: print letters and words. Over the coming weeks, we will be learning how to print letters and words with appropriate size and spacing.

Treaty 7 Week - I CAN: demonstrate a sense of belonging in Canada by following traditions
Today we learned the Calgary Public Library's Land Acknowledgement for children, as we look ahead to Treaty 7 Week. We then got to go outside to spend time learning on the land.

We are so excited to welcome Miss Craik back on Monday. She can't wait to see you all.

Love from Ms. K and Mrs. Bauman ❤️
