Good evening friends and family,
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend together. We had a busy week in Grade 1. Thank you for all the families who remembered it was Library this week. Another reminder is that there is no school Monday November 10th-Wednesday November 12th and we will return to normal schedule on Thursday November 13th.
Some of our learning intentions this week were focused around Remembrance Day.
Social Studies: Belonging and Community: Students explore belonging, community, respect, and how people contribute to a peaceful society.
- I can talk about what peace means to me and how I can help make the world peaceful.
- I can describe how people show respect and gratitude in our community.
- I can share ways we remember and thank people who help keep us safe.
- I can explain that Remembrance Day is a time to remember those who worked for our peace.
- I can show kindness and respect when we remember veterans.
ELAL-(English Language Arts and Literature): Comprehension, expression, and creating. Students express ideas through speaking, writing, and representing, while expanding their vocabulary and understanding of meaningful ideas.
- I can share my ideas about what peace looks, sounds, feels, tastes and smells like using my five sense.
- I can use words and pictures to show what peace means to me.
- I can describe a poppy and explain why it is an important symbol in Canada.

- I can mix and used colours carefully to show my ideas and feelings.
- I can use shapes and lines to make my poppy look realistic or symbolic.
- I can explain the choices I made in my art.
We hope you and your families were able to take some time on Tuesday to remember and honour the veterans.
I will see you all Thursday morning, please try and remember your library books.
Have an excellent fall break.
